Header
Every control in the portal's header — search, notifications, documentation, Help, Settings, theme, language and the user menu.
The header runs along the top of every page. On a wide screen it shows all of its controls; on narrower screens some of them move into a menu — see Narrow screens.

Notifications
The bell carries a count of what is live in the boundary selected in the sidebar: operations running now and access requests that wait on you. When nothing is live, a muted count shows the finished operations still in the list.
The bell's panel has up to three tabs:
- Needs you — only while something waits on you: other people's just-in-time access requests you can decide (Approve, Decline), and your own requests — Activate one an owner has approved. These are the same lists as the dashboard's Access requests card.
- Active — operations running now, step by step, with how long they have been running.
- Recent — finished operations. Remove a finished operation from the list, or all of them with Clear completed.
An operation's name links to the resource it concerns. When others also have operations in the boundary, Mine and All switch between your own and everyone's. When a tab is empty, View history opens the boundary's full operation history.
The panel opens by itself when you start something that runs as an operation, and when a new request arrives for you to decide or one of your own is approved.
Theme and language
Both switches take effect at once, without reloading the page.
- Theme is remembered by this browser, whether you pick it here or on the Settings page. Another browser starts with System, which follows your operating system.
- Language picked here lasts until the portal is next loaded. From then on the language saved on the Settings page applies — English if you have never saved one. To change your language for good, choose it on the Settings page.
User menu
Your avatar opens a menu headed by your e-mail address or user name:
- Settings — your own settings, as behind the gear.
- Change password — opens the page where you change your password.
- Sign out.
Narrow screens
- Below tablet width the search field becomes a search icon, which opens a search bar under the header.
- Below desktop width the theme, Help, Settings and language controls give way to a menu button. The menu holds the theme, Help and the language; open Settings from the user menu.
- The bell, the book and your avatar stay in the header at every width.
