Sidebar

The sidebar holds the boundary switcher and the menu. Entries you have no permission for are hidden, and a section whose entries are all hidden disappears.

Boundary switcher

Boundary, at the top of the sidebar, shows the boundary you are working in. Click it to list the boundaries you can see and choose another. Where you land depends on where you were:

• on a list in the boundary — a service's list, All resources, Resource Groups — the same list in the new boundary;
• on a resource's own page, Resource Groups in the new boundary;
• anywhere else, the dashboard included, the new boundary's own page.

The portal remembers the boundary you chose in this browser.

New boundary, at the bottom of the list, opens the form for creating one. It is shown to people allowed to create boundaries (boundaries/create) — platform administrators; a boundary's Owner and Contributor roles do not include it. See Create a boundary.

Filter

Filter, under the switcher, narrows the menu to the entries whose name contains what you type. A section whose own name matches keeps all of its entries. No matches says that nothing matched.

Each entry opens that service's list in the boundary and is shown to people who may read that kind of resource. Compute is open to begin with, and the section holding the page you are on opens by itself.

Settings

This part of the sidebar is about the platform and its boundaries. Your own settings — theme, language — are behind the gear in the header; see Settings.

Health, Platform Settings, Lifecycle Manager and Backups are checked at the platform root, not in the boundary, so they appear only for platform administrators — a role on a boundary, even Owner, does not show them.

Narrow screens

On a narrow screen the sidebar opens over the page from the sidebar button next to the logo, and closes again as soon as you choose where to go. On a wide screen the same button hides and shows it.
